Probably Stolen Aug Scanner & Identification Guide

At a glance

Use the Aug Scanner to investigate a suspicious customer. Keep power and activation separate from your final decision: awkward speech alone is not a reliable verdict.

What an Aug is

An Aug is a host controlled by a rogue AI chip. Customers can appear human, so appearance and a strange request are reasons to investigate rather than automatic proof.

The Aug Scanner is separate from AquaScan, which tests water, and Scav Scanner, which is used for scavenging. Check the exact equipment name when buying tools.

Getting the scanner

Dr. Jackson’s stock has included the Aug Scanner in the playtest. Treat a displayed quote as the price for your current visit: discounts and other modifiers can change it. A discounted 170-credit quote is not a universal base price.

Playtest activation and power

With a customer present and enough energy in the scanner’s cell, double-clicking can activate a scan as well as open the device. Avoid repeatedly double-clicking merely to inspect it during a customer visit.

Check the device’s own power display before using it. Suggestions to activate it by right-clicking or dragging it onto a customer should not be confused with the existing playtest control.

Do not use dialogue as a shortcut

Unusual wording is not a safe rule for identifying every Aug. Ordinary customers have also had awkward or incorrect dialogue. Use the available tools and evaluate the result before taking an irreversible action.

Older playtest rules restricted the Augmented ending for missing too many Augs to Hard Mode. That is a difficulty-specific rule, not permission to ignore mistaken accusations or a guarantee of identical behaviour in 1.0.
